About The Position

The Packer is responsible for maintaining the production lines running efficiently and ensuring all product is packaged according to specifications and guidelines. This role involves job rotations within the shift, which may include manual packaging, sealing product, organizing product into boxes, putting product on pallets, and operating pallet jacks to move/transport finished product or raw materials. The Packer will also perform visual product inspections and report any issues, requiring knowledge of product specifications and production reports. Safety and general manufacturing practices are prioritized. The Packer will access product specifications via the company’s ERP system and be required to enter data into the system. The position offers a flexible 3/4 day work week schedule and great benefits with 401(k) Match, and opportunity for overtime.

Requirements

  • Grade School level education.
  • 1-2 years’ experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery equipment or similar experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience following work task specifications, SOP’s, recipes, etc.
  • Proficient communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in basic math skills and the proper use of a calculator.
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Be a team player.
  • Be self-motivated; able to identify errors in the product, and packaging materials.
  • Be able to work at the required speed, following the established safety requirements.
  • Be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to perform work while standing during prolonged periods.
  • Be able to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp and work in adverse and awkward positions.
  • Be reliable, punctual and have schedule flexibility including working weekends, Holidays, and off-shifts as needed.

  • Be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Always perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies and trainings related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety, GMP’s, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free).
  • Be knowledgeable about the products being packed, including product specifications and the weight of each tortilla produced.
  • Retrieve product specifications from company ERP system.
  • Identify and understand the specifications of the box and/or bag in which the product will be packed.
  • Program the date machine (of bags and boxes) for different products produced during the day according to rotation.
  • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with bags and boxes that will be used during the day.
  • Maintain the work area clean and organized as per the company’s good housekeeping policy throughout the shift.
  • Meet productivity goals by following the production schedule according to specifications.
  • Participate in line rotation throughout the day or workweek as needed; this may include moving to other lines, helping co-workers, or cleaning other lines during machine downtime or break/lunch coverage.
  • Assure continuous communication with the leader and machine operators when there are deficiencies with the product (i.e., raw, or overcooked tortillas, light or heavy tortilla weight, small or oversize tortilla).
  • Foster proactive communication with co-workers and communicate with the leader.
  • Operate Auto Baggers, Ilapak, and auto baggers.
  • Complete change overs on the entire packaging area (vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, weight).
  • Enter production information into TGI (Machine Log) and complete product pathways into TGI system.
  • Assure that all down time is entered in the Machine Log system.
  • Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse and return all packaging materials to the warehouse storage at the end of the run.
  • Have proficient use of computer and RF gun.
  • Practice continuous rotation within the assigned workstations, packaging tortillas, boxing tortillas, lifting boxes up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
  • Assist in QA program that may include pH verification, Metal Detection Program, recording PH levels and identifying any errors in specification due to pH levels, or line quality checks.
  • Be responsible for following and complying with all SQF requirements.
  • Maintain workstations per SQF guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
