About The Position

Benchmark Space Systems is seeking a Production Engineering Intern for the summer of 2025. This role involves collaborating with engineers and technicians to build and test technologies for next-generation in-space propulsion products for small satellites. Interns will gain hands-on experience and knowledge of industry best practices while working on-site in Burlington, VT.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and seeking a degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong organization, record-keeping, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft & Adobe Suite.
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and matrixed cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multi-team environment to plan and accomplish tasks and meet objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship or research experience in the space industry.
  • Experience related to mechanical engineering or propulsion technologies.
  • Aerospace, rocketry, or other engineering club experience.
  • Experience working on a project that produced flight hardware.
  • Working within PDM and MRP systems.
  • Inventory management and material handling experience.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Creating travelers to document assembly processes.
  • Creating and managing assembly and testing schedules.
  • Creating and managing the production process.
  • Documenting as-built assembly records using Manufacturing Orders and Assembly Component Reports.
  • Generating Nonconformance reports to document nonconformances.
  • Identifying production improvements to reduce cost and schedule.
  • Managing controlled inventory.
  • Communicating with vendors.
  • Taking direction and effectively balancing multiple projects/workloads simultaneously.
  • Maintaining Benchmark's reputation for honesty, integrity, accountability, and transparency.
