About The Position

Under the direction of the General Manager, this role is responsible for managing the facility's production lines, such as trusses, millwork, insulation, doors, and windows, to ensure the most timely, productive, and cost-effective operations. The Production Manager oversees the overall production and physical conditions of the location’s facilities and equipment, partnering with department lead managers to train and develop production personnel. Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating manufacturing activities, reviewing reports, resolving operational issues, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. This position also carries out managerial responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, developing/training team members, planning and delegating work, appraising performance, and resolving complaints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from 4-year college or university, and 4-5 years of directly related experience in the lumber or building materials industry with multiple assignments in all phases of the business; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge/experience in building materials, procurement, inventory management and supervision of people is required.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, trade journals, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or member of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Must be able to persuade individuals or groups to take actions that would result in obtaining a mutually desired outcome.
  • Exceptional leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fraction, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions percentages, area, circumference and volume.

  • Must be able to develop and interpret graphs and charts.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall production and physical conditions of the location’s facilities and equipment.
  • Partners with lead managers of departments and helps to train and develop personnel involved in the production function in these departments.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Production Supervisor or Crew Leader for action.
  • Directs the implementation of safe operating practices in compliance with Company and regulatory policies (DOT regulations, forklift operations, OSHA compliance, etc.)
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Active in professional trade groups such as Home Builder’s Association and participates in LMC meetings and customer appreciation events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervises employees such as Plant Managers or Supervisors.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and developing/training team members; planning, assigning, directing and delegating work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
