Job Summary The Production Manager oversees the safe and efficient operation of the Morton Salt facility in Long Beach, California. The incumbent plans, directs, and controls all aspects of the manufacturing process including production/processing, environmental compliance, people, quality control, engineering, and maintenance. This position is responsible for the operation of the departments to operate in an efficient manner to comply with all company policies, federal, state, and local regulations and laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • 6 years’ manufacturing experience in Production/Technical/Maintenance management.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple project assignments at once.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop, coach and mentor the workforce, build relationships and utilize the workforce effectively while maintaining a high safety standard.
  • High interpersonal aptitude and a proven ability to build consensus utilizing a people-oriented approach.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in bulk material, storage and/or transfer preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment is preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the plant operations, including production, safety, people-management, quality control, and maintenance to meet daily business needs, solve problems, and develop and implement long-term goals and objectives of the plant.
  • Administer the company’s safety program to ensure a safe work environment including providing proactive solutions, implementing timely corrective actions for hazards, maintaining proper housekeeping, and complying with all environmental requirements.
  • Lead and manage plant staff, ensuring a positive culture by maintaining a strong presence in the workplace and routinely interacting with members of the workforce.
  • Interpret the contract and management policies for the supervisory team to ensure compliance with the CBA.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of operations and boat unloading (management and workforce).
  • Manage plant assets by using technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules.
  • Improve and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs to minimize repeat failures.
  • Manage stockpile operations to ensure proper inventory management and efficient load-out activities
  • Responsible for the overall P&L of the plant.
  • This includes monitoring expenses, annual budgeting, and identification/implementation of cost saving initiatives
