About The Position

The Production Manager is responsible for the manufacturing process from raw material to finished product. The Production Manager is required to effectively and safely plan and manage the day-to-day operations of people, equipment and processes through the Supervisors, following the direction of the Plant Manager, the labor contract, shop rules, Company policies, procedures and standard work instructions, and any applicable laws to satisfy internal and external customer requests and demands.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years related experience in a high volume/high mix product line manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Toyota Production System disciplines, lean tools and requirements as well as TS-16949.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies.
  • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing process as well as strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Good understanding of ERP and MRP systems.
  • Goal-oriented and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum - Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Effective organizational and team building skills.
  • Effective problem solving/root cause analysis skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree (M.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prefer previous work experience in the printing on metal (nameplate or automotive) would be preferred.
  • Management experience in a Union environment a plus.
  • Preferred - Lean Program certifications, Six Sigma Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures safety and environmental policies are adhered to.
  • Ensures efficient operation and continual improvement of the manufacturing processes.
  • Works closely with the scheduling and engineering team to ensure that all processes have documented standard work instructions.
  • Ensures successful start-up of new programs which include involvement of capacity planning and working with the Program Management team.
  • Directs and coordinates operations within company policies and procedures ensuring that the product being manufactured meets quality, delivery and budget expectations.
  • Trains with direct and indirect labor.
  • Schedules overtime activities, provides additional support for shift(s) in an overlap schedule (2nd and/or 3rd).
  • Drives 5S in work cells.
  • Provides input to the budget and capital planning of the manufacturing plant.
  • Communicates and interfaces effectively with shift Supervisors and all levels of the organization and with external customers.
  • Reviews concerns from the previous day's production.
  • Provides supervision and leadership that promotes teamwork, cooperation, and employee development to production department supervisors.
  • Assures that the collective bargaining agreement is consistently administered.
  • Ensures Quality and Environmental systems and regulations are adhered to and TS16949 and ISO14001 are maintained/improved.
  • Actively supports the Company's goals and objectives as defined by plant and corporate management.
  • Ensures labor, material reporting timeliness and accuracy.
  • Begins the escalation process to minimize downtime.
  • Reports on labor efficiency, plant yield initiatives.
