The Production Manager at Harvard University's Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall Complex plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective use of the venues for events, performances, and rehearsals. Reporting directly to the Director of the Complex, the Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of event production, house management, and technical operations within the complex. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to a diverse range of users, including faculty, students, and external clients. In the realm of event production, the Production Manager meets with building users to plan events, providing guidance on the safe and appropriate use of the venues. This includes reviewing and approving the technical scope, feasibility, and timeline for proposed events, as well as preparing or approving CAD drawings for event-specific room arrangements. The Production Manager also plays a key role in the planning and logistical oversight of significant events such as Commencement and Reunions, ensuring that all technical and logistical aspects are executed flawlessly. House management is another critical responsibility, where the Production Manager establishes and oversees policies and procedures that address safety, customer service, crowd control, and emergency response. This includes supervising the scheduling and coordination of equipment load-ins, setups, strikes, and load-outs, as well as training student event producers on safe and effective house management procedures. The Production Manager also has supervisory responsibilities, managing a team of three permanent staff and approximately 40 temporary and student staff. This includes flex-time scheduling based on administrative and event coverage needs, overseeing training procedures for ushers and production assistants, and managing payroll processes for staff. In terms of technical responsibilities, the Production Manager operates, maintains, and plans upgrades for theatrical systems, while also serving as a resource for audio/video technical information for special projects. Financially, the role involves administering a $200K sub-department budget, tracking expenses, and reconciling bills and invoices. Additionally, the Production Manager coordinates summer programs renting space at the complex, advising on policies and practices in collaboration with other departments on campus.
