About The Position

The Cambria Hotel in Detroit is expanding and looking for Production Cooks to join our team! About Detroit Cambria : The Cambria Hotel in Detroit will feature upscale amenities that appeal to modern travelers, including immersive, spa-style bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors - Contemporary and sophisticated guest rooms, complete with modern fixtures, abundant lighting, and plush bedding – Multiple food and beverage options - Flexible meeting and event space- State-of-theart fitness center - Locally inspired designs. Job Summary: Accurately and efficiently cook food products and prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Prepare and cook to order a variety of foods that require only a short preparation time.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of or ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety.
  • Basic understanding of or ability to learn food-handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and quickly.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.
  • At least 6 months experience in a similar capacity.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift 40 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours).

Responsibilities

  • Perform food preparation tasks, such as making sandwiches, carving meats, making soups or salads, dips, and charcuterie.
  • Perform general cleaning activities in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Restock kitchen supplies, rotate food, and stamp the time and date on food in coolers.
  • Grill, cook, and fry foods such as fries, eggs, and pancakes.
  • Grill and garnish hamburgers or other meats, such as steaks and chops.
  • Prepares a variety of food items for cooking in griddles, ovens, grills, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
  • Assume 100% responsibility for quality of products served.
  • Clean food preparation equipment, work areas, and counters or tables.
  • Knows and complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
  • Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations.
  • Assists others in closing the kitchen.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty.
