About the position

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is looking for a reliable part-time Production Associate to work alongside members of our full-time Production Team. The Production Team manages recitals, concerts, masterclasses and events in all SFCM Halls. The Production Associate will lead teams of student workers and take directions for all aspects of day-to-day Production Department concert, rehearsal, and classroom operations. We anticipate this position will require 4 to 12 hours per week. Reporting to the Director of Production Services, the Production Associate may act as Lead Production Representative for the event to which they are assigned, and will be the main liaison between SFCM’s event team, the artists, and organizers of the event. All Production staff, including Associates, are required to complete general training which will equip them to run Front of House, Back of House, Classroom set-ups and Large Ensemble set-ups. Production Associates receive additional training in lighting operation and other backstage procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead all logistical needs for an event.
  • Preparation of the venue prior to artist arrival.
  • Plan and execute stage changes.
  • Operate lighting presets.
  • Operate shades, screen or acoustic draperies.
  • Assign tasks to event staff as appropriate.
  • Communicate with other event staff and performers to keep the event running smoothly.
  • Always monitor events during shift.
  • Read the Hall safety announcement at the start of each performance.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of backstage areas.
  • Notify Security to turn on/off the freight elevator and assist in case of emergency.
  • Monitor the house and lobby, assisting the House Manager with crowd control as needed.
  • Communicate with Stage management and Recording Services personnel regarding starting concerts, intermission, live broadcasts, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think independently and problem solve.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and be comfortable with physical labor.
