About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Breakdown Operator is responsible for receiving pressed material, breaking down semi-finished boards from caul plates, and preparing materials for the next phase of production. This role includes inspection, testing, documentation, and safe handling of materials to ensure product quality and smooth workflow between press, setup, and quality control.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Forklift experience or ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Must follow all OSHA standards and company safety procedures.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment based on job function and training.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Use of hands to handle, feel, and grasp tools and materials.
  • Reach and lift with hands and arms.
  • Lift, move, and carry objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to talk and hear clearly for safety on the production floor.
  • Visual ability including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.

  • Forklift experience or ability to obtain certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble books and separate semi-finished boards from caul plates after the pressing operation.
  • Perform visual inspections, Coppertron testing, and mic measurements on all orders.
  • Clean caul plates and route them back to the setup area.
  • Operate the plate scrubber and perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Document completed quantities and production activity accurately.
  • Transfer completed lots using a forklift.
  • Stage material on pallets for rotary shear or manual shears.
  • Transport plates to setup when needed.
  • Coordinate workflow with the press operator to maintain efficiency.
  • Store inspected boards pending release from the QC Lab.
