Production Assistant Intern - Summer 2026
About The Position
Join the company behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing. As an intern at Illumination, you will take part in cross company learning, partner with innovative leaders and teams, and have a seat at the table in our latest endeavors. Illumination is seeking a Production Assistant Intern for Summer 2026 to work closely with our Visual Development and Story Production teams. We are looking for a detail oriented individual, who can multi-task and provide support over many films. The intern should have strong communication skills and be self motivated to grow. This is an exciting opportunity that will give the intern a look behind production within our Santa Monica Headquarters.
Requirements
- Available to work 40 hours per week for 8 weeks.
- Students returning to College or University in the fall are eligible to apply.
- Highly detail oriented; able to handle complex instructions with diligence and follow-through.
- Good communication skills, self-reliant and motivated by the process.
- Strong experience with Outlook, Zoom, and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word) and working knowledge of Photoshop required. Experience with After Effects, Filemaker, or Final Draft a plus.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by the company.
- Must have the ability to work in the Santa Monica studio 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs) without relocation assistance from the company and 1 day WFH (Fri).
Nice To Haves
- Preferred major(s): Digital Media Production/Film, Animation or Communications.
- Experience with After Effects, Filemaker, or Final Draft a plus.
Responsibilities
- Organize and process artwork across shows, shorts, and any ancillary animation pieces, while working with the Supervisors to understand the daily and weekly priorities.
- Upload and catalog assets into a Digital Asset Management system.
- Assist with various database cleanup projects.
- As needed, provide production support for the Visual Development, Story, and/or Script teams and remote artists.
- Support the crewâs daily priorities on all Illumination productions and projects.
- Additional responsibilities as needed.
