The Product Planner position at Shimano North America Holding, Inc. is a vital role within the Fish Division, responsible for managing assigned product categories throughout their lifecycle. This role requires a deep understanding of the North American fishing tackle market, including the various fisheries such as bass, other freshwater species, and saltwater. The Product Planner will conduct ongoing market research to identify current and potential future product trends, assess changing product requirements, measure product successes, and evaluate competitor developments. This position may also involve a one-year assignment at Shimano's Global Headquarters in Sakai, Japan, providing an opportunity for total immersion in the company's product planning process and design/development methodologies. The role is structured in phases, beginning with a comprehensive training period where the Product Planner will learn about the market size and share of each major fishery, key products, and competitive landscape. The planner will engage in office work, retailer visits, and hands-on fishing experiences to gather insights and feedback that will inform product development and planning. As the planner progresses, they will take on more responsibilities, including creating product proposals, maintaining year product plans, and leading various projects as assigned. The position reports to the Manager of the Product Planning Team and may be overseen by Senior Product Planners, ensuring a collaborative and supportive work environment. Candidates for this role should possess a thorough knowledge and passion for fishing and associated products, along with 1-3 years of experience in market research or product planning. Strong communication skills, project management abilities, and analytical skills are essential for success in this position. The role also requires a willingness to travel extensively, including potential overseas assignments, and a basic understanding of the Japanese language or a commitment to learning it.
