About The Position

CommIT Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Product Owner to support a Department of Defense (DoD) software development program. The Product Owner will serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders, customers, and the Agile development team to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet mission and operational needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, demonstrated experience with Agile delivery within a DoD environment, and the ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable user stories and prioritized backlogs. Established in 2001, CommIT is a Certified Veteran-Owned Small Business (CVOSB) providing innovative technical engineering and data science services. Our enterprise systems support includes the Department of Defense's (DoD) GCCS-MC, CAC2S, TBMCS-MC, and the Department of Veteran's Affairs' (VA) telehealth communications. We offer acquisition management, systems engineering, Agile software development, cloud management, IT modernization, data analytics, cybersecurity, and training, including leading-edge DevSecOps, automated testing, and mobile application development.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role on Agile software development teams.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting DoD or other federal programs.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum principles and backlog management practices.
  • Experience writing clear and concise user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar Agile lifecycle management systems.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • CompTIA Sec+ certification

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the voice of the customer and key stakeholders within the Agile team.
  • Develop, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog to align with program goals, user needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including developers, testers, security engineers, and Scrum Masters—to define requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure backlog items are clearly articulated, traceable to higher-level requirements, and ready for sprint planning.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather feedback and validate delivered capabilities against mission objectives.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Agile practices and software delivery processes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, metrics, and reporting on backlog health, velocity, and product progress.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and technical leads to manage release planning, risk mitigation, and change control activities.
  • Support compliance with DoD cybersecurity and configuration management standards throughout the product lifecycle.
