About The Position

Peraton is seeking an experienced Product Owner Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Defense Mission and Health Solutions Sector, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) team. The Product Owner (PO) is the primary advocate for the customer and the "voice of the project" within the Scrum team. You will be responsible for defining the product vision and managing the product backlog to ensure the team delivers maximum business value. In the DME environment, this requires a deep understanding of Medicare claims processing and the ability to translate complex CMS requirements into actionable development tasks. This role is based out of Windsor Mill, MD. Depending on selected candidate's location, this role can be worked fully remote, hybrid or onsite.

Requirements

  • 9 years with BS/BA; 5 years with MS/MA
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of the FISS system, including claims processing, MSN logic, and financial/HIGLAS interfaces.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to conduct research and perform "deep dives" into system logic to identify business impacts.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to demonstrate system changes to CMS and facilitate discussions across differing technical and business perspectives.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience in providing high-level effort estimates to support future project planning and roadmap discussions.
  • Customer Focus: A strong ability to "put yourself in the customer's shoes" and anticipate end-user needs in a non-customer-facing environment.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience transitioning from a senior developer or analyst role into a leadership capacity within an Agile framework.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps tooling (e.g., GitHub, Jira) to track progress and manage dependencies.
  • History of successful collaboration on high-visibility projects, such as MSN redesigns or PI planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Backlog Management: Create, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog to ensure the team is always working on the highest-value items.
  • Requirement Definition: Translate high-level business needs and CMS mandates into detailed user stories and functional requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison between the development team and internal/external stakeholders, including CMS.
  • Vision & Strategy: Define the product roadmap and long-term vision, ensuring alignment with both maintenance stability and modernization goals.
  • Acceptance Criteria: Define clear acceptance criteria for each story and verify that the "Definition of Done" is met before features are released.
  • Value Optimization: Make critical decisions on trade-offs between scope, schedule, and quality to maximize the team's output during each Sprint.
