Product Owners (POs) are crucial for defining product requirements and maximizing value by collaborating closely with the development team to represent the product vision, goals, and stakeholder perspectives. They manage the product backlog and work with the dev team to prioritize sprints effectively. This role typically operates within a product manager's team, who oversees the product's vision and strategy. The successful candidate will join the Innovation Office, which functions as a product factory within the University of Utah health system. University of Utah Health is an integrated academic healthcare system comprising five hospitals, including a level 1 trauma center, eleven community health centers, over 1,600 providers, and a health plan serving over 200,000 members. It is nationally recognized for academic research, quality standards, and patient experience. The system also includes a School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and College of Health, training over 1,250 providers annually. With over 2 million patient visits annually and research grants exceeding $350 million, University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics manages the clinical operations for the broader health system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience as a product owner/manager or software development experience.
  • Experience working in a software development company.

  • Experience working in complex academic medical center environments.

  • Experience working with ServiceNow or JIRA
  • Experience in large scale data platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements across multiple stakeholders: engineering, product, and partner teams, proactively managing dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs in highly matrixed environments.
  • Own end-to-end product scenarios from problem definition through launch and iterations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure product solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business needs.
  • Oversee execution of the digital roadmap in an agile environment, ensuring alignment of initiatives in support of the broader strategy.
  • Contribute to the definition and tracking of product success metrics.
  • Drive experimentation and continuous improvement using telemetry, evaluations, and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate across teams building platforms, applications, and integrations to deliver cohesive, end‑to‑end agent experiences.
  • Contribute to retrospectives and other feedback loops to identify improvement opportunities.
