About The Position

J Michael Consulting (JMC) of Roswell, GA is seeking a full-time, 100% remote Product Manager. J Michael Consulting is seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead product strategy, development, and delivery for public health informatics solutions, with a strong emphasis on NEDSS-based Systems (NBS) and related surveillance platforms. This role balances strategic product ownership with hands-on, billable consulting work, supporting state and federal public health clients. The Product Manager serves as the bridge between public health stakeholders, technical teams, and JMC leadership-ensuring products meet programmatic needs, regulatory requirements, and user expectations while delivering measurable value. Salary based on experience level and not representative of a total compensation package: $80,000- $100,000 annually. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (or a combination of education and experience).
  • 13+ years of experience in product management, product ownership, or business analysis within public health informatics or government health systems.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and product lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience working directly with public health agencies, stakeholders, or government clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically with NBS implementations or modernization efforts.
  • Familiarity with public health data standards and surveillance workflows.
  • Prior consulting experience with billable utilization expectations.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for public health informatics solutions, including NBS.
  • Translate public health program needs, policy requirements, and user feedback into clear product requirements and priorities.
  • Partner with clients and internal teams to define product goals, success metrics, and release plans.
  • Balance near-term delivery needs with long-term product strategy and sustainability.
  • Work with the Innovation team to grow JMC's client base in the surveillance informatics area.
  • Serve as a billable consultant supporting client-facing work related to NBS and surveillance systems.
  • Lead or support requirements gathering, workflow analysis, backlog refinement, and user story development.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, demos, and feedback sessions with public health programs and technical teams.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on public health informatics standards, workflows, and data use.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, QA, and project management teams to ensure successful delivery.
  • Support Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews) as the product owner or key contributor.
  • Align product priorities with project scope, timelines, and contractual commitments.
  • Ensure products align with public health regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., surveillance workflows, data quality, reporting).
  • Contribute to process improvements, templates, and reusable assets across JMC's public health portfolio.
  • Billable work will primarily support NBS implementations, enhancements, and client support, as well as broader public health informatics initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor JMC staff to build our capabilities on NBS and other surveillance systems.
