About The Position

The Product Engineer at Magna Engineered Glass applies engineering principles and analytical techniques to the design and/or development of product concepts, components, or assemblies per the requirements of the Customer Specifications and Design / Performance Requirements. The Product Engineer will be responsible for process, material and product development targeted toward development and launch of new product programs for Magna Exteriors. They will also support current production programs with Customer Driven VA/VE investigations and local support with Manufacturing Lead CI events, as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering Curriculum or Technical Field
  • 4 – 9 Years
  • Proven Skills in Project, EXCEL, Power Point, Word, etc.
  • Ability to travel up to 25 %, during peak launch cycle.
  • Be willing and physically capable of working in the manufacturing environment, “on the floor’ for extended periods as necessary, supporting the Pre and Postproduction Build and Launch Activities. Must also be willing to do the same at the Customers location if requested.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Magna Exteriors Design group to develop future concepts and advanced systems. Works in conjunction with all parties to strive for Best-in-Class Design for Manufacturing (DfMA) – design methodology that emphasizes manufacturing simplicity and assembly efficiency. As a result, a product’s design can be improved to enable faster, safer, more cost-effective and more efficient manufacturing and assembly.
  • Leads product engineering research, design, and development of new or advanced products in compliance with Automotive Standards and Customer Specifications from concept development to validated system. Is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all Customer generated Specification, Documents and Performance Requirements. With this knowledge, they lead and coordinate with the Design Team to assure the final frozen released design meets and or exceeds all Customer requirements.
  • Supports the creation of Change Requests (CR) and Change Notices (CN) within the Magna Change X tool. Uses best practices to track all open CR/CN’s to resolution in the quickest possible turnaround time.
  • Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads, and directs technical work and departmental efforts related to product, process, tooling, and materials as it relates to product design and development activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to product development engineering.
  • Analyzes complex design problems and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles. Leads the investigation and resolves complex components or multiple subsystems and/or assembly problems utilizing 8d’s, Design of Experiments (DOE’s), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools and other problem-solving tools.
  • Leads Customer facing VA/VE investigations and execution. Researches, recommends, and implements new and/or existing products, processes, materials, and equipment. Engages in comparative and competitive analysis to ensure utilization of most appropriate and beneficial techniques in a situation respectively.
  • Coordinate’s development of materials and services for product developed to prove out concepts (e.g. mockups, rapid prototypes, developmental testing, etc.)
  • Identifies best practices and lessons learned opportunities to be utilized in product designs and communicates lessons learned for the benefit of other programs.
  • Supports prototype, pre-production and production manufacturing and build activities, as required.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for completion of projects and achievement of departmental goals. Performs procedures necessary for protection of intellectual property rights.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Support program management in product and process development including prototype tooling and builds.
  • Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Product Specification and Verification.
  • Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM).
  • Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R)
  • Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE)
