Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Product Engineer – Level 3 to join our team in East Hartford, CT. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems Business Unit, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Principal Product Engineer will perform Manufacturing Engineering support to Special programs production. This includes sustaining engineering and new product transition from design engineering to the production group. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. In this job, you will: Responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, problem solving, electro-optic assembly specification, yield issues, minor redesign of assemblies, analysis of customer returns, and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints. This individual assumes responsibility for design transfer from engineering to production and is usually responsible for supporting manufacturing operations. Be a self-starter and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment. Be comfortable working as part of an integrated team including technicians, engineers, program managers, and research scientists. Occasional domestic travel up to 10% of the time. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience. Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical alignment, assembly, bonding, and testing of precision fiber optic, micro-optic, and small mechanical components.
  • Experience with cable harness assembly and Electronics/PCBs.
  • Detail oriented with the desire to constantly improve the production environment, processes, and documentation.
  • Experience creating production documentation and writing engineering change orders.
  • Comfortable reviewing mechanical drawing schematics and checking Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree and at least 4 plus years’ experience in Mechanical or Optical Engineering.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in an engineering development environment.
  • Experienced CAD user (Solidworks preferred).
  • Experienced MRP system user (SAP or Costpoint preferred).
  • Active Top Secret SCI Clearance.
