The Product Engineer is responsible for insuring the completeness, accuracy and on-time delivery of proposals to prospective customers. This role maintains the primary day-to-day telephone contact with customers, field sales personnel, manufacturers’ representatives, and vendors. Once an order is received, this role is responsible for entering it into the system and turning over the project to the project execution team. At times, this role must be able to effectively prioritize customer requests to optimize business results. The person in this role is expected to work with a minimum of supervision. Excellent commercial and technical understanding of MECS products is needed to succeed longer term in the role. In addition, this position is required to assist in the development of strategy and tactics for the organization. As the individual responsible for interfacing with the Sales Managers and the Customers, this person will be called upon to assist in the analysis of financial information and customer trends. They will need to add input to the high-level strategy developed by management, and assist in the implementation of that strategy.

Requirements

  • Normally requires a four-year engineering degree (Mechanical/Chemical).
  • Must deal with various chemical and mechanical fabrication processes and have enough education/background to recommend the correct product for a given application.
  • Personality, tact, and persuasiveness are required for dealing with customers and other in-house engineering and process disciplines.
  • Position handles numerous jobs at a time at various stages of proposal and order activity.
  • Expected to have product, technical, commercial and group operations knowledge to be a resource for other group members.
  • Positions are open to candidates authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • 0 to 3 years related experience preferred.
  • Experience with large project / scope estimation of equipment, plants, and facilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ASTM, ANSI and similar fabrication codes is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of complete, accurate, on-time customer proposals and estimates.
  • Support sales effort with timely response to technical and commercial questions from clients on multiple product lines.
  • Interface directly with customers to support sales effort.
  • Review customer history and recommend “value pricing” based on each situation.
  • Manage sales representatives’ work. Determine splits of rep commissions when applicable.
  • Kick off orders to Project Management team. Highlight history of quote and expectations of order.
  • Updating quotation and process flow tools and documentation for increased efficiency.
  • Market studies / competitive analysis.
  • Assist in preparation of budget/forecast.
  • Recommend pricing changes on a market/customer/product basis
  • Recommend scheduling/shipping changes to facilitate customer needs and improve relations.
  • Recommend product changes.
  • Work with subcontract manufacturers / vendors to improve product quality and reduce costs.
  • Work closely with Process Group on designing and Sales Group for marketing equipment.
