About The Position

The Product Development Scientist is responsible for all activities involved in the process of formulating a product; product types include foods, dietary supplements, and personal care products. This role works closely with the Sales team to meet the client's formula needs by researching ingredients, developing draft formulations, producing samples of formulas, and creating and managing required documentation. This position is key to the fast-paced, rapidly growing business and requires nimbleness in thinking and innovating. As Product Development Scientist, you will develop food, supplement, and/or personal care formulas based on customer specifications in liquid or gel formats to meet regulatory guidelines, cost parameters, stability requirements, processing restrictions, and label claims. You will provide technical support on customer calls with Sales to maintain a dialogue during the development process and support presentations to customers both in our offices and theirs, with some travel necessary. In this role, you will review scientific information and maintain a working knowledge of the industry. You will produce and evaluate bench-top prototypes for customers, manage formula development, and contribute to the manufacturing scale-up process. Identifying, testing, and recommending ingredients will be part of your responsibilities, as well as creating ingredient statements and Supplement/Nutrition Facts panels using Genesis or other software to ensure products are compliant with FDA requirements. You will also review related artwork for compliance and maintain accurate and complete records, including laboratory notebooks, formula documents, and approval documents. Working closely with a cross-functional team to move formulas from the development stage to production is essential, as is managing individual tasks and working under limited supervision. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of industry methods, processes, standards, and cGMPs, as well as processing requirements necessary to produce a shelf-stable product. Experience with flavoring and flavor systems in ingestible products is also important. You must be hands-on, creative, resourceful, and results-oriented, with strong organizational skills to work on multiple projects concurrently with timely execution. The ability to develop a professional working relationship with all personnel, along with strong math, analytical, and critical thinking skills, is crucial. Proficiency in MS Excel and Word, as well as the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, is required. Following GMPs and other safety requirements is essential for this role.
