About The Position

The Product Development Scientist - Edibles at Green Thumb Industries is a hybrid role based in either Chicago, IL or Oglesby, IL, requiring the candidate to spend 50% of their time at the Oglesby facility. This position reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing - Edibles and is responsible for the development and commercialization of cannabis-infused food and beverage products, with a particular focus on confectionary items. The role emphasizes the creation of safe, stable, and compliant products while also supporting product development across other platforms, including transdermal topicals and inhalables. The successful candidate will lead innovation efforts, exploring new product spaces and driving the development of edible and oral delivery systems for cannabis. As the company continues to grow rapidly, the Product Development Scientist will be expected to adapt to the evolving demands of a fast-paced environment, demonstrating a constant curiosity and a strong desire to innovate. In this role, the Product Development Scientist will conduct product development from bench-top prototypes through to scaling up products and processes for commercialization. They will identify new innovation spaces for the business teams and execute prototype development, ensuring that all projects meet their scope, launch timelines, and are executed flawlessly. The scientist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, product developers, brand managers, and manufacturing personnel, to ensure effective communication from concept through to commercialization. Additionally, they will partner with internal and external sources to procure ingredients and leverage vendor expertise in ingredient functionality. The role also involves implementing and advancing new research and development procedures, maintaining accurate laboratory documentation, and supervising R&D lab technicians. Safety compliance, including adherence to GMP and PPE requirements, is paramount in this position.
