About The Position

As a Product Development Intern at Sargento, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Food Science while working in a supportive and family-oriented environment. You will be involved in executing laboratory and pilot plant experiments, conducting sensory evaluations, and supporting product development initiatives. This role is designed for students who are eager to build a future in the food industry and make a meaningful impact.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in food science, food process engineering, or a related field, having completed junior year prior to the start of the internship.
  • Pursuing a master's degree in food science with at least the first year of coursework completed.
  • Ability to effectively present information to peers and colleagues.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and vehicle required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute laboratory and pilot plant experiments to support product development using established procedures.
  • Lead and conduct sensory evaluations, including Descriptive, Discrimination, and Acceptability testing.
  • Perform a variety of routine scientific tasks to gain experience in technical and functional areas.
  • Learn methods to improve food quality, including flavor, color, texture, and nutritional value.
  • Study food standards, safety regulations, and good manufacturing practices to ensure compliance.
  • Evaluate food products, processes, and packaging, and develop production methodologies under test conditions.
  • Support plant scale-up activities and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain written technical documentation and product/process specifications.
