Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of Industry Related Experience (Product Development, Design, New Product Introduction) or Master's in Engineering.
  • Sound understanding of material properties, manufacturing capabilities, and their application in product design.
  • Experience balancing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience generating, compiling, and comparing concepts and applying appropriate engineering analysis to validate them.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in CAD software-Creo, Solidworks, NX (Creo preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanics, Mechatronics or Optical.
  • Experience designing injection molded and/or sheet metal parts.
  • Design of experiments experience.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully in a global matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize mechanical design solutions for new development and improvement projects, keeping both performance and cost targets in mind.
  • Create mechanical designs of plastic injection molded and sheet metal components to meet a set of functional requirements.
  • Provide high-level and detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings suitable for concept presentation to customers, analytical evaluation, patent applications, technical reports or publications, and cost or manufacturability analysis.
  • Research externally published fundamentals, new designs (competitor products and patents), and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead the projects from a technical standpoint, representing the design engineering perspective, which may include delegating tasks to other technical resources.
  • Follow a prescribed product development process with adaptation to the project's specific needs.
  • Collaborate with project team members from multiple technical disciplines located in various domestic and global locations.
  • Work remotely with Manufacturing personnel to release new products at full-scale production.
  • Provide documentation to communicate findings in technical reports, protect intellectual property in patent applications, and support customer presentations and demonstrations.
