About The Position

Nautic Partners, LLC has acquired the Specialty Tapes business from Berry Global Group, Inc., rebranding it as Vybond™. Vybond is a standalone business focused on pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, providing innovative solutions to various industrial and specialty markets globally. The company is headquartered in Franklin, KY, with additional facilities in Riverhead, NY, and Bristol, RI. Vybond manufactures specialty foil, film, and duct tapes and adhesives, offering over 1,500 specialty SKUs across more than 500 product families, serving over 1,500 customers in industries such as HVAC, building and construction, industrial, retail, medical, aerospace, and automotive. The Product Development Engineer will report to the Product Development Manager and will be responsible for the continuous development and improvement of products and product variations at the Riverhead, NY location within the Specialty Tapes sector. This role involves following established Design Control procedures, designing experiments, executing trials, and developing new products to meet customer and market demands.

Requirements

  • Entrepreneurial and continuous innovation mindset required.
  • General knowledge of chemistry, chemical compatibilities, safety protocols, and experience working in a laboratory or pilot setting.
  • Proficiency with MS Office to record and report data professionally.
  • Ability to travel as needed (limited).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in statistical methods and programs (SPC/DOE/MiniTab).
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be a proactive thinker, and results-oriented team player.
  • Project Management experience required; PMP is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required for data-driven project management.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to six years of experience in Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape, Adhesive, or Release Liner design and manufacturing preferred.
  • Competency in understanding process control equipment and the interrelations of processing conditions versus final product performance.
  • Competence in FTIR, DSC, Peel Adhesion, Tack, and Shear testing and other analytical techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established Design Control procedures for development of new products and product variances.
  • Design experiments, execute trials, develop and interpret data, and perform application testing to develop new products.
  • Run trials on pilot coaters using solvent, emulsion, and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives and coatings.
  • Implement product development projects consistent with corporate objectives, ensuring project objectives are met and projects are completed on schedule.
  • Source, analyze, and utilize new raw materials for product innovation and cost reductions.
  • Identify equipment and processing issues affecting quality and performance, collaborating with cross-functional teams for problem resolution.
  • Prepare finished good tape samples and operate various analytical test equipment for data analysis and evaluation of new tape designs.
  • Implement technical documentation packages, including raw material specifications, product specifications, and stability data to support new product introductions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the R&D Manager.
