About The Position

The Product Development Engineer at Gates is responsible for the design, development, and performance testing of connectors used in hydraulic and fluid transfer applications. This role involves collaboration with multiple cross-functional departments to create and analyze new or improved designs, ensuring manufacturability and cost optimization. The engineer will also monitor prototype manufacturing and coordinate validation testing, contributing to the success of a large and complex product line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-7+ years of engineering experience
  • Experience using CAD software, preferably PTC Creo
  • Hydraulic hose fitting, Universal Quick Disconnect (UQD & UDQB), and hydraulic quick-disconnect-coupling design experience
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis using Marc is a plus
  • A hands-on approach to product development

Responsibilities

  • Creating and analyzing new designs for improved manufacturability and cost optimization
  • Organizing, planning, and executing projects with a global team to implement optimization proposals
  • Conducting analysis using mathematical and empirical data, creating execution schedules, and ensuring appropriate business cases to support work
  • Monitoring the manufacturing of prototypes and coordinating validation testing, including forensic analysis of samples
  • Technical writing of global standards
  • Responding to the needs of the commercial organization to support high-value customer needs for products
  • Applying core engineering and six sigma skills such as problem solving, SPC data collection and analysis, FMEA, DOE, etc.
