About The Position

As a Development Chemist , you will join PPG's Protective and Marine Coatings segment as part of the Atmospheric protection, Flooring, Ultra-fast Cure Product Development team. The position is posted in Cheswick, PA but the team will be moving to Allison Park, PA in early 2026. Based at our Coatings Innovation Center in Allison Park, PA, you will support R&D efforts and contribute to the development of innovative coating products. Working under the guidance of an experienced chemist, you will be involved in formulation development, spray/brush/roller application, and testing both commercial and experimental coatings. Your responsibilities will include contributing to and conducting experiments, generating data, assisting in data analysis, preparing samples, and communicating results to lead chemists and technical leadership and marketing teams. You will also help troubleshoot lab equipment and ensure all work complies with safety protocols and corporate standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related Material Science field.
  • Experience with statistical tools for experimental design.
  • 2+ years of related experience required
  • Familiarity with coating application techniques.
  • Knowledge of paint formulation, testing methods, and manufacturing process.

Nice To Haves

  • coating development/formulation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Be a participant and contributor of the 6S and EHS teams.
  • Prepare samples, acquire data, and document results.
  • Conduct physical testing on liquid paints and coated panels (e.g. viscosity, rheology, adhesion, hardness, gloss, color, sag, flow, leveling, etc.).
  • Follow experimental procedures and produce reliable data promptly.
  • Contribute to experimental design and planning.
  • Perform project tasks under the guidance of a senior chemist.
  • Apply scientific methods to experimentation and analysis.
  • Provide recommendations that support project goals.
  • Collaborate with marketing/sales teams, customers, and the broader PPG technical community.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and government regulations.
  • Apply chemistry and analytical knowledge to accelerate innovation and product development.
