About The Position

The Bernard Group is a 100% employee-owned visual merchandising company that leads the retail industry in design and production, working with successful brands globally. They are committed to providing high-quality products and services using sustainable materials sourced from eco-friendly partners who support social change and community involvement. The company is seeking an experienced Product Developer to join their team. This role involves collaborating with a talented group to deliver world-class products to customers by providing innovative mechanical designs, concepts, and prototypes for in-store displays and graphics for Retail, Brand Marketers, and Intermediaries (e.g., Fixture Manufacturers). The position requires basic knowledge and capabilities in prototype development and close collaboration with internal teams including Sales, Design, Engineering, Estimating, Sourcing, and Production. The Product Developer will also counsel team members on proper build techniques and methods.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, CAD, Drafting or a similar degree.
  • Two or more years experience designing and building models, displays, or prototypes in multiple disciplines.
  • High mechanical aptitude required.
  • Proficiency with PC skills using MS Windows, required.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering, production, and shop drawings.
  • Pay close attention to details so you are able to complete projects accurately within deadlines, while meeting Company quality standards.
  • Be self-motivated, a fast learner, and show initiative to seek out customer and corporate needs.
  • Have the ability to work independently, make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively and creatively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Apply effective time management and self-management skills.
  • Understand and maintain the confidential nature of company, employee and customer information.
  • Be proficient with basic hand tools, along with being comfortable around larger machines and equipment.
  • Adapt quickly to new equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills including, demonstrated listening skills and the ability to present ideas and thoughts concisely and effectively both internally and outside the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with computer aided design and drafting tools preferred.
  • Experience working with wood, laminates, veneers, solid plastics, adhesives, and many fasteners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of prototype information for production replication in SolidWorks (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test prototypes according to customer requirements and/or vision.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience of raw materials and manufacturing process of display components, including injection molding, plastics (vacuum form and extrusions), wood cabinetry and framing, and metal/wire.
  • Operate on small equipment, saws, drills, heat benders, etc. in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of prototype information for production replication in SolidWorks (preferred).
  • Participate in preventive maintenance for department equipment, keeping them in good operating condition.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Perform miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management.
