About The Position

The Employee Self-Service (ESS) agent is transforming how employees access support and navigate the workplace. By combining conversational AI, contextual signals, and adaptive workflows, the ESS agent delivers personalized, real-time assistance directly in the flow of work. It helps employees find and understand company policies, locate workplace resources, and complete everyday tasks with clarity and confidence. Whether it’s reviewing benefits, managing a 401(k), ordering food from the cafeteria, or figuring out where to charge an EV, the ESS agent is designed to be a proactive, practical companion for daily employee needs. The ESS design team is leading this transformation by crafting intuitive, human-centered experiences that simplify complexity and foster trust. We are a multidisciplinary team passionate about design excellence, systems thinking, inclusive innovation, technical craft, and prototype-first explorations. We collaborate deeply across product, engineering, and research to shape the future of workplace assistance. We design for AI-powered, conversational, and adaptive experiences while balancing usability, transparency, and trust in systems that learn and evolve. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence how employees interact with policies, benefits, and workplace resources. You’ll grow your craft in user-centered and AI-powered design, learning how to shape system behavior, evaluate outcomes, and design for trust in intelligent systems—while helping build a product that simplifies the everyday experience at work. A 45-min portfolio review presentation is expected as part of the interview process for this role. Your presentation should showcase your work experience and demonstrate your design and storytelling skills, along with your authentic interest for the space through compelling communication. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
