About The Position

The role of Design at Luma is to paint the vision of what can be. Our mission is to build multimodal AI that expands human imagination, and we are looking for a multi-disciplinary Product Designer to help shape the future of human-machine interaction. You will be a key member of the team, establishing a culture of design excellence at Luma. We are looking for a senior, hands-on generalist with impeccable taste and a strong, opinionated design perspective. This is not a role for hyper-specialists or managers; you will take ownership of projects and drive the design vision from a fuzzy concept to a polished, shipped feature with a high degree of autonomy. You will tackle the unique challenge of designing novel, intuitive interaction paradigms for an AI-native product, making abstract concepts feel tangible and magical.

Requirements

• You have 7+ years of experience building delightful and innovative products at scale.
• You are a strong generalist with demonstrated excellence across all three pillars: visual design, interaction design, and product thinking.
• Your portfolio showcases more than just static screens; it includes high-fidelity, interactive prototypes built in tools like Figma, Framer, or Origami. (A portfolio is required for consideration.)
• You have an exceptional ability to articulate your design vision and collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team.
• You have worked in a startup or a similarly fast-paced environment and know how to balance craft with speed.

Nice To Haves

• Experience designing creative tools (e.g., video/photo editors, design software).
• Experience designing for generative AI technologies like LLMs or Image/Video Models.
• Experience with other interactive media like 3D, game design, or visual AI prototyping tools like ComfyUI.
• Work experience at a top-tier, design-led company known for high-craft products.

Responsibilities

• Own Features End-to-End: Lead the design process for major features, from initial product thinking and user exploration to pixel-perfect visual design and high-fidelity interactive prototypes.
• Design Novel Interactions: Go beyond static screens. You will design and prototype fluid, novel interactions for a new medium, taking complex AI concepts and making them feel intuitive and powerful.
• Uphold a High Bar for Craft: Create exceptionally high-quality visual designs, interactions, and prototypes, demonstrating world-class taste and an obsession with detail.
• Define Product Strategy: Collaborate closely with engineers, AI researchers, and product teams to explore new use cases, help define product strategy, and ensure high-quality implementation of the design vision.
• Thrive in Ambiguity: Operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment, turning fuzzy research concepts into concrete, shippable products.
