About The Position

We’re excited to be adding a Product Designer to our growing team! This is an engaging and challenging opportunity that plays an integral role in shaping the development of our upcoming connected Master Lock and Yale & August B2B products. We are looking for a creative, user-obsessed and results-oriented product designer who wants to live on the edge of technologies that bring software and hardware together, within the connected home. This position will report directly to the Senior Principal Product Designer. We are seeking a Product Designer to support our efforts in building world-class solutions for our B2B products like Master Lock's cLOTO product. You will play a key role in building smart security products that people love. POSITION LOCATION: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with all work performed in San Francisco CA, or Deerfield IL where the candidate will be expected to be on-site 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Requirements

  • 4+ years of design experience, with 1+ year focused on IoT products.
  • A BA/BS in design, UX/UI, HCI, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A portfolio showcasing B2B product design work for both web platforms and native mobile apps, with case studies that show your complete process from discovery and research to execution, including measurable impact on users and business.
  • Experience contributing to end-to-end product design as part of a cross-functional team (product, engineering, QA) in an agile/scrum environment.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including working knowledge of variants, variables, and building design system components from scratch.
  • Experience designing and contributing to design systems, from component creation to documentation.
  • Familiarity with interaction design and prototyping tools like Protopie.
  • Familiarity with Jira for collaborative workflows.
  • Strong visual design skills and an eye for polished, consistent interfaces.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and a desire to grow expertise in designing for both digital interfaces and physical product interaction.
  • Experience with user research, including planning studies, conducting interviews, and synthesizing insights.
  • Mastery in thinking holistically about user experiences with relentless attention to detail across all possible states and micro-interactions.
  • Familiarity with user journeys, use cases, and user mental models.
  • Understanding of Material Design and Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Understanding of how connected devices communicate via the internet, with some familiarity with IoT platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and techniques in the design process.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; experience working effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • A proactive mindset, with a drive to solve user problems and contribute thoughtful design solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Indi Young's Listening Deeply research methodology.
  • Awareness of SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose capabilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Using your growing range of skills (UX design, design thinking, interaction design, prototyping, visual design) to contribute to elegant user experiences that span digital (mobile, web) and physical (devices) interfaces to solve problems that matter to users.
  • Designing in collaboration with other designers and taking initiative on specific product areas contributing meaningfully throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leveraging available quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and showing curiosity in identifying additional data sources when needed.
  • Communicating and collaborating closely with software and hardware product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align on solutions.
  • Contributing ideas and advocating for refinements and improvements to the user experience, grounded in user feedback and design principles.
  • Working across the design stack: exploring problems, generating ideas, iterating flows and interactions, building prototypes in support of design goals.
  • Planning and conducting user research activities, including creating research plans, interviewing users, and synthesizing findings to inform design decisions.
  • Participating in workshops and cross-functional sessions, contributing insights and supporting facilitation when appropriate.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and ecosystem partners to help create unified, seamless user experiences across multiple digital and physical touchpoints.
