About The Position

As a Product Designer for Nextdoor's Consumer Product organization, you'll be a key player in driving our design vision, and join a small team of designers evolving and improving the user experience of our platform. You’ll work alongside product managers, engineers, and researchers to shape experiences that transform how neighbors connect with each other, their neighborhood, and local businesses and events. This position reports to the Design Lead, Consumer Product. Deeply human-centered and mission-driven, you’re excited to create digital experiences that strengthen real-world connections and empower neighbors to build stronger communities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in UX design, product design, or a related field, with a strong track record of designing and shipping user-centered products
  • Deep expertise in interaction design, information architecture, and usability principles, with a portfolio demonstrating impactful work in complex systems
  • Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, with the ability to synthesize insights into actionable design decisions
  • Proficiency in Figma and other design tools for creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs
  • Experience working with and contributing to design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across surfaces
  • Ability to lead design strategy and influence cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, marketers, and data scientists
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale and advocate for user needs to senior stakeholders
  • Experience conducting A/B tests and working with analytics tools (e.g., Statsig, Google Analytics, Mixpanel) to measure the impact of design decisions
  • Passion for staying ahead of industry trends, particularly in UX for social media

  • Experience using AI tools to build working prototypes and validate ideas
  • Experience working on engagement-driven social media products
  • Background in UX research

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and UX strategy for Nextdoor’s core product experience: the feed. You’ll work to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints to drive measurable impact
  • Use qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions, working closely with researchers and data analysts to validate hypotheses and refine solutions
  • Develop and refine user flows, wireframes, and prototypes that improve feed engagement, and retention while creating a positive user experience
  • Advocate for a user-first approach, ensuring that the feed drives real value for neighbors
  • Deeply understand the metrics that we use, and advance design solutions that support measurable goals while keeping an eye on the big picture
  • Mentor and guide other designers, providing feedback, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team
  • Contribute to and evolve design systems, ensuring consistency and efficiency in feed-related UI components across surfaces
  • Influence product and business decisions by effectively communicating UX rationale to stakeholders, including executives, through storytelling and data-driven insights
  • Drive experimentation and A/B testing efforts, collaborating with product and analytics teams to measure and optimize the effectiveness of UX improvements
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in the user experience by following best practices and advocating for diverse user perspectives
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in advertising UX, AI-driven personalization, and visual design to inform innovation and future roadmap planning
