About the Role: The Product Designer in Embedded Firmware is part of the Research & Development Bionic Solutions product development team and is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and qualifying advanced control algorithms and software for bionic lower-limb prosthetic devices. This role collaborates closely with biomechanics experts, software / embedded systems engineers, and clinical teams to improve the functionality, performance, adaptability, and user experience of advanced prosthetic systems.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in real-time control systems, preferably in prosthetics, embedded systems, robotics, or wearable technology.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Familiarity with embedded system development and sensor integration.
  • Knowledge of biomechanics, human gait analysis, or rehabilitation engineering.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with machine learning, signal processing, or adaptive control is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards for medical devices (e.g., ISO 13485).
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize real-time control algorithms for lower-limb prosthetics to enhance device performance, safety, and consistency in various environments.
  • Integrate sensor data (e.g., IMUs, load cells, encoders) for accurate user intent recognition and device control.
  • Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of controls with embedded systems.
  • Analyze device and gait data and conduct bench and field testing with prosthesis users and clinicians.
  • Debug, document, and maintain codebase for embedded and application-level software.
  • Contribute to technical documentation as per applicable internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and contribute to requirements definition.
  • Contribute to risk management activities as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Stay updated on state-of-the-art research in prosthetic control systems and apply relevant advances.
