About The Position

The Product Design Technician - Level III at Cummins Inc. is responsible for enhancing product quality, driving efficiency in design processes, ensuring compliance with standards, and supporting engineering teams. This role involves mentoring less experienced designers, maintaining configuration control, and collaborating across functions to create innovative and robust product designs. The technician will utilize advanced CAD skills and mechanical knowledge to produce high-quality specifications and models, contributing significantly to the technical excellence and collaborative spirit of the organization.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in a relevant field preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling and mechanical design.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and drafting practices.
• Experience with electrical wiring and analysis skills.
• Ability to mentor and train others in product design.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with FEA and mechanical systems knowledge.

Nice To Haves

• Basic understanding of DVA's/tolerance stack up would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain high-quality specifications, drawings, and models to ensure product quality.
• Utilize advanced CAD and GD&T skills to streamline the design process and reduce errors.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards for regulatory approval and market success.
• Generate concept models and participate in Drawing Quality Reviews to support engineering teams.
• Mentor and train less experienced Product Designers to foster continuous learning.
• Maintain configuration control using CAD data management tools to prevent costly mistakes.
• Collaborate with various functional areas to integrate diverse perspectives into the design process.
• Participate in the maintenance of standards and practices to uphold quality standards.
