About The Position

Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Product Design Specialist - Wiring. This role will take place out of our facility in Sumter, SC. We are able to offer relocation assistance for qualified candidates within the United States. The Product Design Specialist - Wiring is responsible for being the technical lead of our Programmatic Engineering team in the development of our BOMs and harnesses. They will be subject matter experts with regard to power distribution control wiring. They will also work with adjacent divisions to develop Engineered-To-Order (ETO) automation capabilities. This role requires hands‑on experience with electrical CAD and wiring‑automation platforms such as Autodesk Electrical or EPLAN. The ideal candidate will be proficient in creating and maintaining electrical schematics, panel layouts, wire lists, and routing logic, as well as generating manufacturing‑ready outputs including BOMs, device data, and automated wiring information. Experience translating engineering intent into standardized, repeatable digital designs and ensuring compatibility with downstream manufacturing processes is essential. The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years of design experience with wiring‑automation platforms, such as, EPLAN.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem-solving skills. Work with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment.
  • Proficiency in Engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Enovia)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Up to 20% of your time traveling.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of design experience with LV electrical distribution equipment
  • At least two (2) years of experience designing products under UL 50, UL67, and UL 891 standards
  • At least two (2) years of experience with EPLAN software package
  • At least two (2) years of experience with Autodesk Inventor
  • Certification for Design for Six Sigma

Responsibilities

  • Be the subject matter expert for control wiring and harness development
  • Work with other divisions to develop automation around EPLAN schematics and wiring diagrams from Eaton’s Design Automation tool
  • Assist in COE design reviews for key customers:
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Ensure designs are optimized for contracted configuration variability
  • Develop and drive plans towards EPLAN implementation across all Custom Order engineering team.
  • Develop and drive harness capabilities in the business
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable national and local electrical codes and standards as they relate to the products we produce (UL, NEC, NEMA, OSPHD)
  • Represent the product line as a lead technical consultant
  • Develop standards around best wire modeling practices
  • Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc.
  • Design, model, and test product prototypes.
