About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical Sector Americas – Assemblies and Residential Solutions (ARS) division is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer - Switchboards. This position will be based at our facility in Smyrna, GA, Glendale Heights, IL, or La Vergne, TN. A hybrid work model is available (3 onsite/2 remote) and subject to 25% travel. Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Product Design Engineer will execute engineering and technical design of the switchboard product line withing the Satellite organization. Developing standard bus designs along with manufacturing/machining programs that align with fabrication capabilities. In this role you will:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum one (1) year of product, design, electrical, or sales engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (Co-ops and internships will count towards this requirement)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 2 years of product engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge and application of engineering and design principles required
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand product assembly drawings required
  • Experience with AutoCAD required, and AutoDesk Inventor for 3D modeling preferred
  • Experience with panelboards/switchboard bus design preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design bus bar layouts for non‑standard switchboard sections using Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk AutoCAD, Enovia, and supporting tools such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Apply power flow requirements, product standards, and prior layouts to develop compliant bus bar designs where standard assemblies are not available.
  • Prepare complete manufacturing documentation, including mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.
  • Utilize knowledge of assembly and component design drawing methods to produce accurate, manufacturable designs.
  • Create and maintain programs for various satellite fabrication equipment to produce designed parts, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with released engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Translate bus bar and component designs into machine‑ready programs while accounting for equipment capabilities, tooling constraints, and fabrication requirements.
  • Support production by troubleshooting and resolving issues related to fabrication programs and design intent as parts move through manufacturing.
  • Ensure all designs meet Eaton quality guidelines and applicable product standards throughout the production process.
  • Perform routine quality checks on drawings and documentation prior to release.
  • Support root cause analysis activities related to safety, quality, or productivity issues as assigned.
  • Resolve routine and moderately complex design issues using established processes and engineering judgment.
  • Escalate non‑standard or high‑risk design issues to senior engineers or leadership as appropriate.
  • Execute work assignments from leadership and internal stakeholders to support customer orders in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams including production, engineering, and business unit personnel to complete work assignments.
  • Respond to technical questions related to product design and application within defined scope and standards.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
