About The Position

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Designer II to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA. The Product Design Engineer II contributes to the conception, design, development, and verification of new products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Product Design Engineer or related role.
  • At least 2 years designing systems or components for mid-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience in integrated system design, including mechanical simulation, 3D modeling, DFM, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with project management processes and principles.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Demonstrated completion of 30+ projects involving 3D modeling and 2D drawings, material selection, manufacturing methods, structural FEA, tolerance analysis, design reviews, and verification/validation for robust performance.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Design innovative, customizable power distribution busway systems and components.
  • Apply a systematic, analytical approach to product concepting, design, and testing.
  • Develop mechanical systems using a range of manufacturing methods, including thermoplastic extrusion, plastic injection molding, thermoset molding, metal forming, casting, and extrusion.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD systems for detailed design analysis, including structural, thermal, and finite element analysis.
  • Conduct material and tooling cost studies; collaborate with vendors to ensure cost-effective designs.
  • Prepare requirements, functional specifications, verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering from concept through launch.
  • Support and direct testing activities to verify performance, integration, and compliance with standards.
  • Schedule, track, and maintain the mechanical aspects of project timelines.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure manufacturability.
  • Build strong, positive working relationships with fellow designers.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support organizational objectives.
