Do you love telling stories with sound? How about cutting tape and laying up a story in multitrack? Are you someone who likes to keep up with the news? Great! Keep reading. KQED is looking for a producer to join The Bay podcast! The Bay is KQED’s local news podcast that keeps Bay Area listeners informed and engaged with their communities. It’s “local news to keep you rooted.” Episodes are released three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And each story strives to help define what it means to be part of the vast metropolitan region we lovingly call the Bay. You’ll be joining a fast-paced, collaborative, multi-skilled podcast production team invested in local communities, equity and civic issues. Come eager to dive deep into Bay Area politics, culture, life and tensions. As the show’s producer, your job is to work with the team to make the episodes. You’ll do this by laying out the story in a multitrack session, cutting down two-way interviews, finding soundbites from previously recorded interviews or archive tape, scoring the episode with music and publishing the episode. You’ll also work with the editor to help conceptualize and frame the episode. Expect to work with the host during interviews or on field reporting trips. And there will be plenty of opportunities to pitch episode ideas. The right person for this position has a passion for local news and understands how to meet a deadline. They are interested in sound design and storytelling, and can be ready to pitch in on various tasks because they are a team player. KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling. We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply. KQED Code of Ethics https://www.kqed.org/about/code-ethics The mission that drives us: KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas. This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. The successful candidate will be required to join The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
