About The Position

WHNT-TV and WHNT.com are looking for someone to join our team as a Digital Content Producer in Huntsville, Alabama, and help continue our commitment to digital-first local journalism. Applicants must be innovative and full of creativity. The Rocket City is sure to have a little something for everyone, whether your interests are space, entertainment, education, sports or outdoors. North Alabama is a region that is growing quickly with lots to offer. This position requires exceptional writing skills and stellar news judgment, with the ability to react quickly to breaking news. The Digital Content Producer is also responsible for curating high-performing content, crafting homepage layouts driven by data, and helping to report news -- everything from quick-hit local stories to breaking news and enterprise reports. This role will work on building a loyal, local audience by being responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest while serving as a steward of our brands.

Requirements

• Degree in journalism, communications or related field
• Daily newspaper/news site experience or newsroom experience required
• Live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred
• Knowledge of SEO Best Practices and AP Style
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or Canva, and Basic HTML preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms preferred
• Willingness to work any and all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong multi-tasking abilities
• Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker
• Capable of researching, interviewing and writing original news articles
• Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly
• Maintain a positive work environment through active team participation

Responsibilities

• Write stories for the web and other digital platforms
• Ensure accurate and engaging copy
• Edit and post content in a deadline-driven environment
• Monitor all forms of media for breaking news stories
• Hunt for exclusive and trending content that will grow engagement and drive loyal, local traffic
• Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation
• Optimize on-air assets for various digital platforms
• Utilize social media for monitoring and posting relevant content
• Evaluate website traffic trends for content decisions
• Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity
• Research and database skills, along with online experience in design and editing
• Create, upload and schedule content for streaming
• Run breaking news update livestreams from the OBS desk in the newsroom
