About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Produce Department, including ordering, merchandising, inventory control, shrink management, food safety, sanitation, scheduling, and associate development. This position ensures fresh, high‑quality product, excellent customer service, and strong execution of company programs to drive sales and profitability.

Requirements

  • Previous produce or retail grocery experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of produce handling, freshness standards, and merchandising.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Basic proficiency with store systems and Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain strong product knowledge.
  • Lead, train, coach, and supervise produce associates.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a positive, productive work environment.
  • Execute all corporate merchandising programs, planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays.
  • Ensure consistently full, fresh, clean, and visually appealing displays.
  • Monitor quality, rotate product, and remove unsellable items.
  • Order product to maintain appropriate inventory levels and meet sales demands.
  • Receive, inspect, and store product properly following rotation and safety guidelines.
  • Manage shrink by identifying root causes and implementing waste‑reduction strategies.
  • Ensure accurate signage and pricing throughout the department.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary department including prep areas, coolers, and storage.
  • Enforce compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Train associates on proper handling, storage, and sanitation standards.
  • Create and manage weekly labor schedules based on business needs.
  • Complete required reports, logs, and inventory counts.
  • Monitor department performance and support store leadership as needed.
