About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Produce Department, including sales performance, product quality, food safety, inventory control, and associate development. This role ensures fresh, high‑quality product presentation while driving profitability, maintaining compliance, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Requirements

  • Prior retail or grocery experience, preferably in Produce or Fresh departments.
  • Knowledge of produce handling, merchandising, and food safety standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Produce Manager or Assistant Produce Manager experience.
  • Experience managing inventory, shrink, and department financial performance.
  • Familiarity with company systems and ordering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Produce Department associates to achieve performance and service expectations.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling to ensure proper department coverage.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and address associate relations concerns appropriately.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, food safety, and customer service.
  • Ensure fresh, high‑quality produce is consistently stocked, rotated, and displayed to company standards.
  • Execute merchandising plans, seasonal transitions, and promotional programs.
  • Monitor product freshness, shrink, and out‑of‑code items, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal.
  • Manage ordering, inventory levels, and receiving processes to minimize shrink and maximize sales.
  • Analyze sales, spoilage, and shrink reports to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Control labor usage and expenses to meet department financial targets.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product labeling.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, sanitation guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain audit readiness for health inspections, internal audits, and company reviews.
  • Enforce safety procedures to reduce workplace risks and incidents.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of product.
  • Deliver a consistent, high‑quality shopping experience for customers.
  • Resolve customer questions, concerns, and complaints professionally and timely.
  • Actively engage customers on the sales floor and model service excellence.
  • Partner with the Store Director, Assistant Store Directors, and other department managers on store priorities.
  • Communicate departmental goals, expectations, and performance results clearly to the team.
  • Support store initiatives and cross‑department collaboration as needed.
