About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for preparing agricultural products by sorting and discarding inferior or defective produce, as well as preparing produce for merchandising and shipping. This role ensures the quality of produce through inspection and adherence to shipping standards while maintaining equipment and enhancing the department's reputation.

Responsibilities

• Sorts agricultural produce by segregating produce on conveyor belt or table; applying grade, color, and size distinctions.
• Segregates acceptable produce by discarding inferior or defective items and foreign matter.
• Prepares produce for merchandising by bunching, tying, and trimming; selecting choice produce to be used as top layers on marketing containers.
• Prepares produce for shipping by packing produce in boxes, barrels, baskets, or crates; placing containers on designated conveyors or pallets.
• Maintains quality results by following inspection and shipping standards.
• Helps others by answering questions and responding to requests.
• Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Enhances produce sorting department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
