About The Position

The Produce Lead reports directly to the Store Manager and the Perishable Manager. This position is responsible for duties such as but not limiting to maintaining the highest standards of freshness and fullness in the stores produce department. The Produce Lead provides excellent customer service and is the leader in maintaining excellent daily department conditions. This position accomplishes all job duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Proven, efficient retail sales experience; excellent customer service preferred; produce experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and basic computer skills
  • Must be dependable and flexible to work scheduled shifts, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store as needed with little or no advance notice
  • Must adhere to safety standards
  • Must adhere to a uniform dress code
  • Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing 20-50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight could be 50-80 pounds
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk and / or move about for extended periods of time
  • Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, twist and use sawing motions for extended periods of time
  • Regularly works in freezers, coolers, refrigerators, inside and outside of the store in all weather conditions and inside delivery trucks
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our workplace values.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks the produce department each day practicing First-In-First-Out procedure
  • Follows all quality control and cold chain procedures
  • Culls the department daily for low quality product or close dated items
  • Reduces low quality product or close dated product in a timely manner for customers to purchase and to control department shrink
  • Enters ID loss and discards into the handheld daily for inventory accuracy
  • Oversees receiving, down stacking, and checking in their own delivery against truck invoice for shortages and quality issues
  • Consistently submits credits for deliveries with quality issues or shortages using the store email
  • Maintains excellent department conditions in produce case, display bins, and dry racks
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment
  • Completes cleaning duties as assigned- weekly cleaning tasks and monthly cleaning tasks.
  • Provides excellent customer service, which includes but not limited to, communicating in a friendly/courteous manner
  • Writes orders for their department using the order guide and utilizing the on hand and order columns when completing
  • May assist with training of new managers or clerks on the department procedures
  • Maintains proper rotation for dated and undated products
  • Ensures products have price tags/signs and are displayed per company guidelines
  • Ensures WIC eligible items are properly coded in system for ease at register
  • Protects company property, funds and merchandise
  • Properly displays, trims, packages, and fills authorized fresh produce
  • Maintains excellent sanitation standards in preparation area and backroom- scale, produce table, produce sink, cooler
  • Performs other duties, including working in other areas of the store, as assigned
  • Oversees counting of quarterly inventory with accuracy and honesty
