About The Position

As a Produce Inspector at US Foods, you will ensure that the quality of produce received from suppliers, stored in the warehouse, and shipped to customers meets the specifications set by US Foods. This role involves performing daily inspections of all incoming fresh produce deliveries and the inspection of all fresh produce in inventory within our coolers. You will make decisions to reject or accept fresh produce at receiving and ensure appropriate processes are followed that are consistent with PACA laws when a rejection is necessary. Additionally, you will work directly with warehouse management to identify and address food safety concerns, maintain records of inspections, and communicate daily with the replenishment lead and warehouse manager on all issues related to fresh produce.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in produce or other perishable receiving and inspection required.
  • Working knowledge of USDA Specs, Grades and Standards required.
  • Working knowledge of PACA laws required.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications/hardware.
  • Completion of US Foods Produce Inspector Course within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Team-player - flexible and willing to learn new things and adapt.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure produce quality that is received from supplier, stored in the warehouse, and shipped to customers meets specifications.
  • Perform daily inspections of all incoming fresh produce deliveries and inspect all fresh produce in inventory.
  • Make decisions to reject or accept fresh produce at receiving.
  • Withdraw produce from inventory that does not meet specifications.
  • Work with warehouse management to identify and address food safety concerns.
  • Maintain records of inspections.
  • Collaborate with replenishment lead on dumps, damages, and produce re-work decisions.
  • Communicate daily with replenishment lead and warehouse manager on fresh produce issues.
  • Verify Purchase Order quantities and inspect quality for all inbound perishable loads.
  • Inspect all inbound trucks for signs of pests and rodents before unloading.
  • Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures for receiving, storage, and shipping of fresh produce.
  • Document temperatures of all inbound loads and report violations.
  • Check for proper rotation of all produce inventory and perform daily quality inspections.
  • Complete daily dump and damage report and give to warehouse supervisor or inventory control.
