About the position

The Produce Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while handling food safely and maintaining a clean work area. The role involves reviewing the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and ensuring customer satisfaction through various interactions.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
• Makes an effort to learn customers' names and address them by name.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean work area.
• Reviews the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness.
• Ensures an adequate product supply and follows a production list.
• Checks in product, puts product away, and reviews invoices.
• Replenishes and rotates product as necessary.
• Removes trash in a timely manner.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes product as necessary.
• Maintains adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Orders product and supplies as necessary.
• Prices products for customers as necessary.
• Delivers orders as needed and assists in other areas of the store.

Requirements

• Less than High School education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
