About The Position

The Produce Clerk is responsible for providing service that exceeds the expectations of customers by performing various duties in the produce department. This includes stocking shelves, washing, cutting, peeling, wrapping, and preparing fruit for stocking. The clerk is also responsible for stamping, marking, or tagging prices on merchandise. A thorough knowledge of the various types of produce, their origins, growth processes, preparation methods, and life spans is essential. Additionally, the ability to understand and use scales is required. The Produce Clerk plays a vital role in building business by maintaining excellent customer service and creating repeat business.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Three to six months related experience and/or training
• Equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

• Stocks shelves in the produce department
• Washes, cuts, peels, wraps, and prepares fruit for stocking
• Stamps, marks, or tags price on merchandise
• Knows the various types of produce, where they come from, how they grow, how they are prepared, and their life span
• Understands and uses scales
• Maintains excellent customer service and creates repeat business
