Produce Buyer (Fresh Categories)

About The Position

The Produce Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing fresh and perishable categories, including produce, floral, and dairy. This role owns vendor relationships, pricing, quality standards, and product availability to drive sales, minimize shrink, and ensure freshness and consistency across all Talpa Supermercados store locations.

Requirements

3+ years of experience in retail buying, preferably in produce or perishables.
Strong understanding of fresh supply chains, seasonality, and cost drivers.
Proven negotiation and supplier management experience.
Category management, advanced negotiation, financial analysis, and cost control.
Advanced Excel skills, ERP systems, and BI tools.
Strong cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end category performance, including sales, margin, shrink, and inventory.
Develop and execute seasonal buying strategies aligned with market conditions and customer demand.
Identify assortment opportunities to drive growth and optimize product mix.
Build and maintain strong relationships with growers, distributors, and fresh suppliers.
Lead negotiations on pricing, quality, service levels, and delivery terms.
Evaluate supplier performance and drive continuous improvement.
Partner with CPFR teams to align purchasing with demand forecasts.
Ensure product availability while minimizing waste and overstock.
Monitor product quality, freshness, and compliance standards.
Identify risks related to seasonality, supply disruptions, and commodity fluctuations.
Analyze sales trends, margins, and KPIs to adjust buying strategies.
