About The Position

This role will focus on Supply Chain Procurement - Rate analysis, supplier risk management, and contract negotiations, with an emphasis on International and Domestic transportation. The ideal candidate will have experience managing freight rates, evaluating supplier risk, using data-driven insights, and optimizing transportation spend. This job is located at our Global Home Office in Columbus, Ohio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or related experience.
  • Freight Pricing Expertise: Direct experience in setting carrier rates, pricing models, and freight cost structures from the supplier side (NVOCCs, forwarders, brokerages).
  • Strategic Rate Understanding: Knowledge of how carriers build pricing models, including where margins are typically padded and where flexibility exists.
  • Contract & Supplier Risk Awareness: Understanding of how rate adjustments, surcharges, and market volatility impact long-term carrier agreements.
  • Negotiation Support Mindset: Experience negotiating rates as part of a pricing team or working with sales teams to price freight solutions.
  • Experience with Procurement & Pricing Technology: Familiarity with Ivalua (preferred) or other e-sourcing platforms for tracking rate proposals and managing contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Support Carrier Rate Negotiations: Use firsthand experience in pricing freight services to identify where to negotiate and compromise during rate discussions.
  • Interpret Carrier Rate Proposals: Assess pricing structures, surcharges, and built-in margins to help the team make better negotiation decisions.
  • Run Sourcing Events & RFPs: Lead freight procurement events, negotiate carrier contracts, and review rate proposals.
  • Leverage Supplier-Side Knowledge in Procurement Strategy: Advise on carrier cost structures, common negotiation tactics, and hidden flexibility in pricing models.
  • Work Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with procurement, finance, and logistics teams to apply pricing insights to contract negotiations.
  • Manage Third-Party Risk: Assess and mitigate supplier risks, including financial, geopolitical, and operational concerns.
  • Use Ivalua or Similar Platforms: Manage RFPs, supplier contracts, and procurement workflows.
  • Leverage Data and Technology: Utilize freight benchmarking tools (e.g., Xeneta, Freightwaves) and Power BI for analytics to develop more effective procurement strategies.
  • Drive Innovation: Support AI-driven analytics, predictive modeling, and process automation in procurement.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership Growth: Work closely with logistics, finance, and supply chain teams, with potential to develop into a senior procurement leader.
