About The Position

The Procurement Specialist - Local Services role at Rio Tinto involves supporting the Kennecott operation in Salt Lake City by providing strategic sourcing and supply chain solutions. This position is integral to negotiating contracts, managing supplier qualifications, and leading procurement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and compliance with company policies. The role requires collaboration with various teams to generate innovative solutions and improve procurement outcomes.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, data analytics, or communications is desirable.
• A combination of related supply chain training including purchasing practices, contract negotiation, and contract management.
• Energy and curiosity to challenge specifications prepared by technical teams.
• Procurement knowledge or significant Procurement background.
• Excellent communication skills to engage with a wide range of internal and external partners.
• Advanced negotiation and persuasion skills.
• Critical and analytical thinking including operations analysis.
• Health and safety consciousness and adherence to a strict code of ethical conduct.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in mining or processing industries.
• Familiarity with e-technology in procurement processes.

Responsibilities

• Act as procurement leader for site-specific contracts and negotiate contracts.
• Create and maintain Category Strategy for relevant categories for specific partners.
• Ensure qualification of suppliers and compliance with Rio Tinto Procurement Policy.
• Prepare and manage Request for Information and Request for Proposal.
• Lead business-critical negotiations and secure outcomes that align with strategic procurement priorities.
• Draft and execute required contracts and master service agreements, incorporating critical KPI metrics.
• Generate creative supply chain solutions that balance people, goals, methods, policies, and procedures.
• Develop new ideas to improve procurement outcomes and guide others in resolving complex issues.
