About The Position

The Procurement Market Intelligence Expert is a strategic, data-driven expert responsible for delivering deep market insights and analytics to enhance procurement decision-making. This individual contributor role focuses on leveraging data analytics, market research, and advanced modeling techniques to drive procurement excellence, support category strategy, and mitigate supply risks. This individual will collect and analyze internal and external market data, monitor industry trends, and provide actionable intelligence to inform sourcing strategies, risk management, and cost optimization initiatives. You will work closely with category managers and senior procurement leadership to ensure data-driven decision-making across the organization. Key responsibilities include developing and managing procurement dashboards, conducting predictive analytics on supplier and market performance, and synthesizing complex data into clear, actionable insights. The ideal candidate has a strong background in procurement analytics, market intelligence, and strategic sourcing, with expertise in data visualization tools, AI-driven analytics, and market trend forecasting. This role requires a blend of analytical expertise, business acumen, and communication skills to translate complex data into strategic recommendations that drive competitive advantage and procurement efficiency. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or related discipline
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

  • 10+ years of experience Procurement, Procurement Analytics, Market Intelligence, or related fields

  • Expertise Proficiency in market intelligence tools (e.g., Beroe, Gartner, Bloomberg, etc.)
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with procurement and ERP systems (e.g., SAP Ariba)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of industry trends, supplier markets, commodity pricing, and geopolitical factors that impact procurement decisions.
  • Lead in maintaining good working relationship with internal stakeholders. Serve as a liaison to key stakeholders on Procurement Market Intelligence & Analytics.
  • Demonstrate and share knowledge of industry, PG&E activities, the California wholesale electricity market and market participants. Provide insights to support sourcing strategies and procurement analytics.
  • Take a leadership role in stakeholder initiatives, including assisting junior members of the team with stakeholder comments and presentations.
  • With no direction, make presentations about the market. Gather and distill complex data into clear executive-level presentations to drive director-level decision making.
  • Prepare 'deep dive' position and strategy papers.
  • Help support ad hoc requests for analyses of impacts of electric procurement issues as needed. Lead spend analysis, total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling, and should-cost analysis to support sourcing decisions.
  • Act as an 'internal expert' with other internal business lines. Develop, lead, and manage highly complex market intelligence and analytics programs.
  • Take the lead in the preparation of reports to management and other filings to regulatory agencies.

Benefits

  • Salary range: Bay Area – $122,000 to $173,000
  • Eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs
