About The Position

The Procurement Forester is responsible for the purchase of standing timber assets, overseeing contract administration, and supervising contractors and employees involved in timber appraisal. This role includes harvest planning, contract negotiation, and ensuring the quality of raw material delivery from timber harvests. The position requires fieldwork across various counties in Michigan and emphasizes compliance with quality systems.

Requirements

• Minimum of one year practical experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field.
• Personal computer skills including spreadsheets and word processing.
• Basic understanding of statistics.
• Thorough understanding of timber cruises and appraisals.
• Ability to recon timber and design accurate timber appraisals.
• Knowledge of log scales and measures, including cost structures and rate determination methods.
• Ability to analyze competitive bid data and vendor wood prices.
• Ability to evaluate supplier performance using cost, volume, and quality data.
• Knowledge of safety, environmental, labor, and transportation concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries.
• Ability to manage vendors or suppliers.
• Demonstrated leadership in safety performance and process improvement.
