Procurement / Estimating Specialist - Design Build Company
About The Position
The Procurement / Estimating Specialist will support our team in the construction of high-end residential and subdivision projects, through the procurement of materials and placing orders in connection with our projects under construction. This role is pivotal, in that the candidate will possess a thorough understanding of the field process, protect the design intent and prevent costly delays. The ideal candidate is self-driven, organized, and quality-focused, with strong construction/product knowledge and good design instincts. This position can be full-time, or part-time.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of proven experience with residential construction estimating, ordering and coordinating cabinetry, doors, and windows
- Working knowledge of installation requirements, lead times, and field coordination
- Strong estimating fundamentals and ability to perform accurate takeoffs
- Proficiency in reading, understanding and interpreting construction drawings and details
- Strong design acumen and familiarity with current architectural/interior styles
- High level of accountability, follow-through, and attention to detail
- Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Astute time management, attention to detail, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, follow-through and customer service skills
- Ability to work effectively alone and within a collaborative team environment
- Valid CA driver’s license and clean and insurable record
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with high-end residential construction, custom details, and finish standards, a plus
- Experience creating/maintaining procurement logs, submittal logs, and lead-time trackers, a plus
- Ability to maintain existing vendor relationships and establish new vendor relationships
- Proficiency with MS Office 365, particularly Excel and Teams
- AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software experience, a plus
Responsibilities
- Procurement / Purchasing Cabinetry (finish and casework), windows, interior/exterior doors
- Door hardware packages, stair systems, railings, chimney caps, and related finishing materials
- Vendor coordination, quotes, lead-time management, and order tracking
- Confirming specifications, dimensions, and compatibility with field conditions
- Ensure quality and alignment with design intent and project schedule
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assemble scopes for pricing
- Support estimate for finish packages and building components
- Assist with value engineering and alternates when needed
- Maintain clean, organized documentation for pricing, selections, and purchasing decisions
- Read and interpret construction drawings and details (architectural and structural as needed)
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, or constructability concerns early
- Coordinate clarifications with the design team, PMs, and field staff to prevent delays and rework
